Godrej & Boyce arm ties up with Tescon, Masonite

The Economic Times, Kolkata, 4th May 2005

In a move to consolidate its presence in the domestic market, Godrej & Boyce’s security equipment division (SED) has tied up with Germany’s Tescon and Canada’s Masonite to launch premise security products and ready-to-fit doors respectively. SED has thereby targeted a turnover of Rs 280 crore in three years time, up from Rs 142 crore achieved in 2004-05.

“There’s saturation of security products in the banking sector and this move will help us target institutional and home segments in the years to come”, D.E Byramjee, Vice president and business head, SED, Godrej & Boyce Mfg Ltd said after launching the ready-to-fit door range in Kolkata on Tuesday.

While Tescon is one of the major players in premise security solution products, Ontario – based Masonite International Corporation is the world’s largest door manufacturers with a presence in over 50 countries. Godrej has the exclusive marketing rights with these two companies for the Indian market and will directly import  the products.

Godrej will be marketing the range of ready-to-fit doors under the brand name Entranza. The price point of the products will hover in the range of Rs 2500 – 40,000, “This is the first time that a national player will enter the Rs 400 crore door market in India, 95% of which is in the unorganised sector. We are targeting revenues of Rs 100 crore from this  segment in six years time”, said Mr Byramjee.

On the other hand, Godrej will be launching a range of premises security solutions like road blockers, tyre killers and bollards, “We have already initiated talks with several government organisations for institutional sales of these products” added Mr Byramjee. The company is also going to expand the range of the conventional security devices where it presently controls about 75% market share, “We are now targeting to grow at nearly 100% every three years,” Mr Byramjee pointed out.
